Thursday I joined the ranks of those who have seen the snowy owl ?in the Stanwood area with?the help of some Tweetsters who were also looking for it.??The lone owl?was south of Thomlie?Rd. and SE of Eide Rd. on the north levee of the South?Pass of the Stilliguamish River.??It was too far away for?really good photos with my big honkin'? 100-400 zoom.??One needed an even bigger 500, 600, or 800 telephoto to get really good shots.? The owl is such a bright white that at a distance it can easily be mistaken for a man-made object, such as a plastic paint bucket.

Much closer and easier to photograph were numerous other raptors?including northern harriers, kestrels, short eared owls, red-tailed hawks,?a?rough-legged hawk, and bald eagles. ???You could easily spot the bird hunters, as they were carrying?scopes, cameras, binos, or shotguns. ?
