Hello,

With several goals in mind, I began today before dawn birding the area
around Deer Lake in Stevens County. Then I birded the Chewelah Valley with
hopes of finding a Snowy Owl. By late morning, I traveled south and spent
an hour or so on the Spokane Indian Reservation, still in Stevens County. I
spent the afternoon in Lincoln County primary focusing on the route between
Reardan and Davenport and ending up on the West Plains of Spokane County
along Coulee Hite, Ladd, McFarlane and Stroup Rds. These are highlights.

Cackling Goose (1) - Lincoln - Reardan Audubon Lake
Canvasback (1) - Stevens - Deer Lake - found by Tim Durnell last week, with
flock of Ring necked Ducks
Gray Partridge (10) - Spokane - Hwy 2, West Plains
Golden Eagle (2 adults) - Stevens - soaring over Little Sweden Rd, Waitt's
Lake
Northern Rough Legged Hawk - many in Stevens and Lincoln Counties -
especially along Old Kuck's Rd
Praire Falcon (1) Stevens - Heine Rd - 1/4 east of road on power pole
SNOWY OWL (1 female) Lincoln - corner of Omans and Morrison Rd - very
cooperative bird
Short Eared Owl (6) Lincoln - Detour Rd - about a mile west of hwy 231 -
just west of bridge - very active, calling - 3:30pm
(3) Spokane - 2 on McFarlane Rd, east of Ladd, 1 on
Stroup Rd, after 4pm
Northern Saw Whet Owl (2) Stevens - predawn - east end of Deer Lake
Northern Pygmy Owl (2) - Stevens - 1 at Deer Lake, 1 on Little Sweden Rd
WHITE HEADED WOODPECKER - (1 male) Stevens - Martha Bordman Rd on Spokane
Indian Reservation
Northern Shrike (2) Stevens - Newton Rd, Valley Rd, (1) Lincoln, Omans Rd
Bewick's Wren (1) Stevens - Chamokane Creek on Spokane Indian Reservation -
not an easy bird in Stevens, and while not always reliable, I think this is
the best place to find the wren in Stevens county
American Tree Sparrow (8) Lincoln - Sunset Hwy about 1/2 west of
intersection with Hwy 2 (Aspen Grove)
(3) Spokane - McFarlane Rd between Coulee Hite and Ladd
Rd
COMMON REDPOLL - (10) Stevens - south end of Waitt's Lake in riparian area
with lots of birches

A fun day.
Blessings
