Subject: [Tweeters] Snowy owls at Ocean Shores--12-5-11

Just spent the day at Ocean Shores taking the walk to enjoy the snowy
owls. A great day for a great walk. We were lucky enough to see 5 of the
7 reported owls and were able to sit on a log and watch them for quite some
time. Even had a great fly by as one flew and circled close by.
Only problem was that that owl flew because it was "flushed" or disturbed
enough to fly off its perch. Two members of the "brotherhood of the long
lens" moved to within about 40-50 yards of two birds until this one
flushed. We were only using binocs and were over 100 yards away but still
had great viewing. I guess those long lenses just looked like they were
high powered.........
Two of the other owls were flushed by humans closing in on them.
Such a disappointment!! We left with truly mixed emotions.
