As long as we?re having confession
time here, I?ll add my bird that wasn?t.

Several years ago when I first moved
to the Bremerton/Seattle area I remember driving along I-5 in the Tacoma / Fife
area and passing that outfit that sells the manufactured homes on the left hand
side as your heading north. It?s right around the Emerald Queen Casino on your
left, and before the car dealership across the highway on the right. This place has a nice big blue sign next to
the highway and perched on top was a Great Horned Owl. I just knew it! I had seen it with my own eyes. I couldn?t have been more excited! I
even turned the car around so I could go take a look at this owl perched along
the I-5. I was even more delighted to
see the GHO in the exact same place the next morning when I began my new job up
in Seattle and started the daily morning commute. Surely this GHO wouldn?t still be there on
the way home?.. But there it was!!
Perched in the exact same spot on that big blue sign along I-5!! Imagine that!

Some
of you know exactly where and what I?m talking about and you are probably having a good
laugh as you read this. (Laughter is the best medicine after all). But?. For those of you who don?t know, it turns out
that the GHO constantly perched in the same place on that big blue sign was nothing more than a decoy
to prevent other birds from landing on the sign and ?marking? it with their
droppings. It took a few days, but I figured it out. : )
