Subject: [Tweeters] Winter Finches on Mt Spokane

Hello,

This morning, I made a quick trip up to Mt Spokane in breezy and somewhat
foggy conditions, but the birding was still pretty good. At the snowmobile
parking area, there were several large mixed flocks of finches that included
mostly Pine Siskins but with quite a few Common Redpolls and 3 White Winged
Crossbills. Some of these were concentrated in the trees above the restroom,
others feeding right on the road. Another smaller flock was around the
corner on the way up to Selkirk Lodge. Two Red Crossbills were nearby as
well.

Along the road, there were several other small finch flocks - again - mostly
Pine Siskins with lesser amounts of Common Redpolls (pure and mixed flocks
of each). On the way up the 2nd ski resort near the "stay right " sign,
there were more flocks of finches, one with two more White winged
Crossbills. In the low bushes at the parking lot at the second skit resort
were more siskins and redpolls.

Back down at the Peone Wetland, a flock of six White Crowned Sparrows (late)
continue to hang out on the corner of Peone and Kroquist Rd.

Love the finches!

Blessings
