Just west of Camas, Clark County, Turkey Vultures nest and roost on a cliff and every morning they fly to Camas where they circle the stacks of the paper mill. The hot air and steam from these stacks create great thermals that the vultures have learned to use, it isn't uncommon to see a dozen birds at time there. Wilson Cady

In the past, I&#65533;have watched a pair of adult peregrines at March Point fly over to the base of the steam plume at the refinery, circle around&#65533;and ride it up to height, fly out over the bay, stoop ducks and then fly over&#65533;and do it again several times. They used it&#65533;repeatedly as a sort of elevator to get a free ride.&#65533;Clever birds.
