Stan and I were joined by 6 others on this monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park for Eastside Audubon on December 7, 2011, from 8 am to noon. (Gabe, 13, is one of the youngest birders to join us so far and had very good eyes and ears and a great sense of humor!) It was a cloudy but dry morning, with 2-3 mph winds and temps ranged from 37 to 39 degrees F. No rarities were seen, but birds of special mention are: MERLIN (1); THAYER'S GULL (1); VARIED THRUSH (1); and TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS (4). It was another enjoyable half day of birding together at this wonderful, urban park. Our next scheduled walks are Jan 25 (not Jan 23 as previously reported), Feb 22, and March 19, 8 am to noon. No pre-registration, just show up, rain or shine (trails can be very muddy). 54 species for the day, 120 for the year.
