Looking back through my calendars, I see that, prior to this weekend,
November 2005 was the last time a Snowy Owl made an appearance in
Edmonds. One was on the marina's south breakwater for several days and
then it or another appeared on a homeowner's roof along Sunset Avenue
on Thanksgiving Day. I think a lot of turkey dinners were delayed by
the owl. Birders and nonbirders alike were thrilled with this
Thanksgiving gift. Paging back from that Thanksgiving I see that
November 2005 was also when the Clay-colored Sparrow put in an
appearance in Freeland and it was that same month that Ruth and
Patrick Sullivan located the Teminck's Stint at the Ocean Shores sewer
treatment ponds. It was a very good month.
