Subject: [Tweeters] Common Redpoll, Kittitas County

Dear Tweeters,
Contrary to the prediction from the Winter Finch Forecast this years,
there appears to be a small southward push of Common Redpolls. Thus, I had
been excited to start combing through the Pine Siskin flock that frequents
my feeders here in Ellensburg. Unfortunately, my feeders have been lately
occupied by a fairly dense Sharp-shinned Hawk (no birds will appear for him
to eat if he doesn't leave every so often!). I was pleasantly surprised
this morning to glance out the window and see a single male Common Redpoll
in amongst a flock of House Finches. He hung around for about an hour
until something spooked off the whole flock.

Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
Ellensburg, WA

P.S. In all fairness, the Finch Report really pertains to the eastern half
of the continent.
