I know that eagle viewing is not uncommon here, but lately we have had
some locally big populations. I live just north of Arlington and there
is a little fish hatchery just off of Hwy 9 at Harvey Creek. They must
be putting out salmon carcasses or something because the eagle
population on the creek is huge. I counted 16 yesterday and almost as
many today. The nice part is that it is easy viewing. About a mile or
so north of Arlington is a paved pull off near a fenced storm water
pond. From there you have a good view to the north and northwest of the
creek area. Lots of trees for perches. Along with the eagles I have
seen some interestingly colored red tailed hawks, heron and numerous
crows and ravens.
Not sure how long the feed will keep them in the area, but for now it is
truly impressive.
