Subject: [Tweeters] Swan ID Question

On Sunday I saw some swans on a frozen patch of
water a bit west of Cle Elum on I-90 (south of
hwy). There were six birds - three adults and
three juveniles. I did not have my scope but the
birds were relatively close and easily seen in
good detail. Not possible to get a good sense of
size as there was nothing around to compare them
to. I took some pictures with my high zoom camera
(not a dslr). The ID question revolves around the
bills. At most there was a very small and very
indistinct spot of yellow on the bills of at least
two of the adults right below the eye. Only
visible under magnification. Otherwise the bills
seemed very long and extended deeply back into the
face. But for that spot I would have thought
these were Trumpeters. On the other hand in the
back of my head I have had a sense (perhaps wrong)
that Tundras were more typical inland and the
Trumpeters on or closer to the salt. Any
insights, lessons would be appreciated. Thanks
