Subject: [Tweeters] Commercial Posts to Tweeters

Hi Tweets,
I'm seeing some commercial posts appear on the list lately. I'm sure
this is from lack of awareness, but here's the relevant guideline:
>AVOIDING INAPPROPRIATE TOPICS...
>...commercial advertising (as distinguished from product
>endorsement). It is fine to post "I prefer such-and-such model of
>binocular," or "I want to tell you about a great new book," but it
>is not appropriate to say "...and you can buy it at Bob's Camera [or
>Greenleaf Books]." However, one-time announcements from
>not-for-profits about a new publication, or service, or event, are
>appropriate for posting to Tweeters.
(from http://www.scn.org/tweeters/guidelines_tw.html)
Personally, I'd like to be able to post birding-related but low-key
notices of events, photos for sale, etc., but I've held off in
respect of the guidelines. Some public reminder by our Moderator
might be useful.
