I visited the injured Snowy Owl yesterday at 2nd Chance Wildlife Care
Center, http://2ndchancewildlifecarecenter.org/. She is now doing much
better, not eating on her own yet but she sure is taking an interest and
eating what she is fed with some gusto. The folks at the center are
pretty sure she was hit as she had a dislocated left foot and a very
stiff left wing, along with head trauma and concussion symptoms. Lots
of good massage, great food and care seem to be perking her right up.
They said that she was nothing but skin and bones when she was brought
in. It was really nice yesterday to see her taking an interest in her
surroundings again.

The folks that run the center have a large number of birds they are
caring for, from several different Owl species, hawks, killdeer, pigeons
and crows. I was told yesterday of a Bald Eagle that took 13 months to
rehab so that it could return to the wild. I don't know how typical
that may be, but I sure admire the dedication of the folks that do this
work.

Having learned what I have from this experience, and seeing how much
they give and what they need, I will most certainly be supporting folks
such as this.

And once again, thank you all on this list for having taught me the
little I now know. It certainly has given me a far greater appreciation
for what these birds and animals bring to me, the least I can do is to
give a little bit back.

I will be tracking the progress of this Snowy Owl, and i am sure going
to feel great when she can be released back to the wild.
