I guess it all depends on how the word commercial is defined.? Personally I think individual sales of birding related gear is beneficial.? I bought a used Swaro scope this fall through a Tweeters post. ? I couldn't afford a new one and it's difficult to express in words just how much I appreciate finding it. ? ? The Swaro delight d-jure was watching an immature bald eagle splashing around in the flooded field on the way to the barn at Nisqually.? I don't know if eagle bathe that often or not but it's the first time I've ever witnessed an eagle splashing around with ducks acting like a kid in a swimming pool.? It sure looked weird but the duck just ignored the new guy in the pool.? This is the young eagle that has a lot of white markings that is often seen in the area.? One of those life moments brought to you up close and personal by Swaroviski. ?? I'm actually surprised that more people don't post gear for sale.? My philosophy is that if you
aren't using it, give somebody else a chance and where else but at Tweeters are you going to get your message before fellow birders so effectively.?

Subject: [Tweeters] Commercial Posts to Tweeters

Hi Tweets,

I'm seeing some commercial posts appear on the list lately. I'm sure this
is from lack of awareness, but here's the relevant guideline:

AVOIDING INAPPROPRIATE
TOPICS...
>...commercial advertising (as distinguished from product endorsement). It
is fine to post "I prefer such-and-such model of binocular," or
"I want to tell you about a great new book," but it is not
appropriate to say "...and you can buy it at Bob's Camera [or
Greenleaf Books]." However, one-time announcements from
not-for-profits about a new publication, or service, or event, are
appropriate for posting to Tweeters.
(from
http://www.scn.org/tweeters/guidelines_tw.html)

Personally, I'd like to be able to post birding-related but low-key
notices of events, photos for sale, etc., but I've held off in respect of
the guidelines. Some public reminder by our Moderator might be
useful.
