Saturday my wife and I enjoyed a sunny stroll out the boardwalk trail
and back. Notably, there were several female Northern Harriers
putting on an acrobatic show, a gorgeous White Egret hanging out with
the Great Blue Herons, two Western Meadowlarks between the barns and
boardwalk, Bald Eagles everywhere, Dunlin and many, many Green-winged
Teals.
A NNWR volunteer said a whale had been seen west of the boardwalk
during the morning higher tide. There had not been Snowy Owl
sightings Saturday so he recommended we drive north on Meridian to
Nisqually Reach Nature Center where a birder pointed out a white dot
on the far beach we agreed was a Snowy. There was also Glaucous Gull
on the mud flats.
