Subject: [Tweeters] Ross's Gull and Red-breasted Sapsucker

Like many others I had a very satisfying trip to see the Ross's Gull on
Friday. In addition to the beautiful bird, I enjoyed some fine times with
old and new friends.

On the way home I stopped at the Wells Dam Rest Area (eBird HotSpot) and
observed a Red-breasted Sapsucker which I identified by the all red breast
and yellow belly. However it did have some white on the head similar to the
southern subspecies in the big Sibley. I did not notice any black on breast
or rear crown but still wonder if this might be a hybrid. Unfortunately I
left my camera in the car until after the bird disappeared so no picture.

Looking at eBird I see that this is pretty far east for either a RBSS or
hybrid. Thus I thought this observation might be Tweeters worthy and
perhaps someone might want to stop enroute to the Ross's Gull. Please reply
on or off list if you discover anything new about the bird.
