Greetings all:

The Latah Snowy Owl was still present this morning, one power pole north of
the Latah/Nez Perce county line along US 95 from 7:20 until 7:30.

After killer looks with the scope, the bird flew west. Subsequent try to
relocate it from Cow Creek west of US 95 wasn't successful. It seems that
most of the reports are from 7 to 7:30.... The goose hunters opposite the
bird (east side of US 95; they really need more practice with their goose
calls) didn't seem to matter, neither did the semi's zooming down the
highway.

I'm not really into the age and sex thing, but looking at Bertie
Josephson's 1980 paper in the J of Field Ornithology, this bird resembles
what she shows as a first year female: it is heavily barred.

Driving back home and near my driveway, I was treated to a Cooper's Hawk
laboriously taking flight with a California Quail.
