hi all ... Gene and I did the "Washington slice" of the Portland CBC
today ... cold and chilly but a nice walk ... we had 26 species
!!!!!! ... at first the fog was so thick we could only see a couple
of hundred feet, but by the return walk we could see across the river
... anyways, nothing real unusual bird-wise, but we did get to watch
a Common Loon eating a HUMONGOUS Crayfish !!!!!!!!!!! ... other birds
which thrilled us were 3 Downy Woodpeckers and 1 Red-breasted
Sapsucker all in the same area ... and we had 3 Common Goldeneye
ladies of which 2 of them had enough yellow on the bills to get me
excited into thinking they might be Barrow's ... we also were
impressed with the number of people out walking dogs and kids on such
a chilly morning (for those who know the area - basically McMinnamens
to the Red Lion) ...
