I watched a male merganser struggle with a large flatfish for more than 10 minutes before it moved out of sight. I don't know the result of this battle. Over the years I'm sure most of you have seen these fish battles but this is the first one I've seen for a Merganser. Anyone know how common it might be? Is it possibly a young male?Sure seems like a prickly experience. You can see the image at:
