After a report of over 200 swallows earlier this week at the River S tour
route at Ridgefield NWR, I finally got around today to look at the flock. I
only found 60-70 swallows mid-afternoon, but at one time there were 10 Barn
Swallows perched in a small tree looking south at South Big Lake. Mostly
Tree Swallows, no Violet-greens although reported earlier in the week. A
shallow disked wetland beyond stop 4 (where the Black Phoebe has been fairly
regular) there were 55 Wilson's Snipe bathing, resting, and foraging along
the edge.
