Abby and Tweeters,
Ah, but Steller's Jay is the provincial bird of BC- approved in the 1990s
through a competitive process with major public involvement, from an
original 6 candidates.
If Washington wants a new state bird, it should avoid choosing one which is
already a State or Provincial bird for another state or province.

Hi Tweeters,
I agree that the Great Blue Heron, while a really fun bird, isn't all that
Washington-ey. Here's a bird that says home: Stellar's Jay. Really, the
classiest of the jays, in my opinion, and no one else's state bird! Plus, a
little press may help popularize its correct name....
