Skate skiing from the Town Trailhead in Winthrop today: On the way back I
saw bunches of birds reminding me of swallows over the river. Of course,
they were not swallows but they were flying back and forth as if hawking
insects out of the air. From a distance I was puzzled. Finally I got up
close enough to see they were Bohemian Waxwings! What fun. I couldn't say
how many - fifty? A hundred? Just constantly flying back and forth,
sometimes landing on the snow or in the brush.

Also saw a pair of Hooded Mergansers, American Dippers, all three
nuthatches, Mountain Chickadees, Ravens and Bald Eagles.
