On the ferry from Port Townsend, we saw Harbor Porpoises, as well as
3 adult Bald Eagles that outpaced our boat. After landing, we saw a
Sharp-shinned Hawk flying across Crockett Lake.

We saw 4 Greater Yellowlegs along Penn Cove near Hwy. 20, as well as
a River Otter munching on fish. Another Sharp-shinned Hawk dodged crows.

In addition to seeing and reporting the swan tangled up in the duck
decoy at Dugualla Bay, there were the usual Canvasbacks and also
Ring-necked Ducks.

On the western leg of March's Point Rd., within 1/2 mile of its
intersection with Hwy. 20, we saw Barrow's Goldeneye, a Peregrine
Falcon, Northern Shrike and about a dozen Wilson's Snipe working the mudflats.

Around the Samish flats were lots of raptors flying and sitting low,
since it was cool and overcast. At the West 90 we saw about a
half-dozen Short-eared Owls around 4 PM, with many Northern Harriers
mixed in. Many posts, shrubs and trees hosted adult and immature Bald
Eagles and Red-tailed and Rough-legged Hawks. We saw a few
Yellow-rumped Warblers flycatching from some scraggly trees. Pretty
sure we saw a Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk around the East 90.

As darkness approached, we beat it down to North Fork Access, where
another Northern Harrier and one Short-eared Owl cruised. We started
hearing a lot of what we first took to be highway noise, but soon
turned into the evening flight of approx. 12,000 Snow Geese flying in
from the east into Skagit Bay for the night. Small groups of Tundra
Swans called overhead as they joined in.

I've mentioned what were highlights, for me, among the typical
species seen. It was a good day.
