I've had an Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler in the yard for the past couple of weeks but today I spotted a what I thought was a Townsend's Warbler - a yard first and this year's first for me. It stayed long enough for me to get my binoculars and camera (unfortunately too far for my point and shoot). I observed in for a bit and took menta notes - it had a white breast with a bit of a black necklace just showing, lightly black streaked sides also against a white feathers, mask and back olive, yellow face and head..Do first spring female Townsend's have white breasts and sides?
As it flew into the rhodies, it flashed white outer tail feathers. Any suggestions? I don't think it was a Black-throated Green but admit, I am perplexed.
