"V" for Varied Thrush...I had two in the garden foraging among the leaf debris where I sprinkle seeds, nuts, and dried berries.? The male was here all weekend.?This morning, I actually heard the varied thrush before I saw him.? What a hauntingly beautiful song he has. ?The male and female?flew in?together on February 14th.? Maybe they were celebrating St. Valentine's Day, too.? These beautiful birds never fail to brighten up an otherwise drab winter garden and mezmerize me in the process.

I also had several Steller jays, Townsend warbers, song sparrows, golden-crowned sparrows, bushtits, chickadees, a ruby-crowned kinglet, a spotted towhee, and?a Bewick wren.?All of them a winter garden delight.
