Our birding party observed a Rough-legged hawk patrolling, often hovering in
brisk wind, over the steep grassy slope above Parego?s Lagoon in Ebey?s
Landing on Whidbey Island on Saturday, 19 February. From above it looked
quite dark and we first misidentified it as a young Redtail. Our group
included UW director of the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, Dave
Armstrong, Larry Hobbs, ship board naturalist for National Geographic
Expeditions and myself.
