Good morning Tweeters,

Woke up to more snow and lots of birds around the feeders.? My assumption is that some species are migrating through and the recent snow fall has made finding food more difficult.? I just counted 10 VARIED THRUSHES on the ground around the feeders.? This is a yard record for me for this species.? I've had 2 or 3 all winter, and normally they are fairly secretive and nervous in the open, but, over the past couple of days, they have often?remained in the open for long periods of time.? They can be very aggressive toward each other, but they completely ignore the other species that are feeding around them.? Yesterday, I had 6 or 7 PURPLE FINCHES show up, which was this species' first appearance all winter.? They were soon followed by a very small flock (less than 10) of PINE SISKINS; I had not seen any in my yard since late Fall.??Since the snow began, I?often?have more than 10 species at a time showing up, including FOX SPARROWS & GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, which?normally avoid my feeders as they are placed in the open.? My neighbor's feeders are being visited by EVENING GROSBEAKS, although they almost never come into my yard.? I'm getting cabin fever.

Good birding and careful driving,

Lonnie Somer
