Happy New Year Tweets,

I decided to note my last bird of 2010 this year in addition to the
first of 2011. Perhaps I did that because my last of 2010 was a
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK perched on a light standard along I-5 in Everett,
near the Marine View Drive exit, late yesterday afternoon. This is a
bird one can savor as a last sighting. When I went to bed last night
I pondered which would be the first bird of the morning. I knew it
really depended on whether I headed for the living-room window to
check the feeders or head for the back door to get the sugar water
cylinder out for the hummers. My curiosity overcame me in the living-
room. As the dark was fading into dawn, a FOX SPARROW was on the
ground working a safflower seed in its bill. Okay, two decent birds
to note the transition so I shot out the back door with the hummers'
feeder to see both buzzing around the vine maple tree wondering where
it was. The peanut butter feeder has been replenished and I'm going
to snuggle back in the warmth for a bit. I hope you all have
interesting last and first birds.
