My first bird of the year was a glaucous-winged gull, which
was eminently appropriate, since I was staying at the Inn at
the Market overlooking Pike Place Market and Elliott Bay.
The sound of these gulls crying is deeply ingrained in my
psyche from growing up in Seattle :)
