Happy New Year,



Went for a bike ride along Lake WA Blvd down to Seward Park today. The usual
black and white divers were out: buffleheads, mergansers, and lots of
goldeneyes. Just as I left the park and turned north onto the blvd, there in
the middle of the road was a female ring-necked pheasant, attempting to
cross over to the lake side. I pulled off to the side, but she quickly
spooked and retreated to the underbrush opposite the lake. I don't think she
went far, but she was absolutely invisible after that. When you're used to
looking at buffleheads in the water all day, a pheasant in the road seems
huge!
