Particularly because of the freezing night temperatures here while I was
in San Diego, I was concerned that the birds who lived here might have
at least moved up the valley a mile or so away to the home of the only
other person in the area that I know who feeds the birds.

However, yesterday, I barely made it in the house after scattering White
Millet on the ground and filling the hanging feeders with black oils
before dozens of Juncos, a half dozen Evening Grosbeaks, two Varied
Thrush, and four each Towhees and Stellars were there to enjoy it! They
are all back today with their friends as well as some Chickadees! I did
have the thistle feeders inside however, so I am hoping the usual influx
of Pine Siskin did not pass by while I was gone.

I did leave full and over-running feeders when I went, but you know how
that goes with Jays, Squirrels, and Raccoons in the area; probably gone
the first day! Perhaps, the birds survived on the multitude of seeds
from the grasses and bushes that live unmowed or pruned on my five
acres. Also, there were some berries left although I am unsure if birds
eat them once they are frozen!
