Hi Tweeters,

We recently returned from The Big Island of Hawaii and were fortunate in observe the following endemic birds, mostly in the Hakalau Forest NWR on Mauna Kea and Volcano NP on Mauna Loa above 6000' elevation:

?Akepa
?Akiapola'au
?Amakihi
?Apapane
?Elepaio
Hawai' i Creeper
?I'iwi
'Io (Hawaiian Hawk)
Nene (Hawaiian Goose)
?Oma'o (Hawaiian Thrush)

In addition, these visitors were observed on the Kona and Hilo coast:

?Akekeke (Ruddy Turnstone)
Hunakai (Sanderling)
Kolea (Pacific Golden Plover)
?Ulili (Wandering Tattler)

Of course most of the alien species on the Big Island were observed everywhere except at higher elevations on the volcanoes.
