Late report of new year's morning, because Clarice and I just returned from a relaxing trip to Long Beach
peninsula. It wasn't all that cold there (but generally windy).

Most memorable sightings included a group of about 60 swans (too far away to tell for sure whether
trumpeters or tundras) resting near head of Willapa Bay, visible from east end of 113th. St.

Flock of 40 Canada geese on lawn of the "Rod Run" park on Sandridge road. Noted that 9 had white
collars with 4 digit codes. The collar color would indicate Western (moffiti) and many had typical moffiti light
breast coloration, however several were very dark, appearing like Duskies (occidentalis). Wonder: could
these be part of the group that has been studied last few years that breeds in lower Columbia area and
includes Westerns that are as dark as typical duskies? Or do duskies flock with Westerns in this area?
Anyone know this flock?

Day after the cold and windy night of fireworks had a long conversation (of sorts) with a large (female sized)
peregrine resting on one foot on a beach log, while other humans walked by without even noticing her. She
seemed unperturbed. Rounded out the day with lots of dunlin, sanderlings, and black bellied plovers.
