Happy New Year! I've just received word of some upcoming Hawk ID classes
that are to be offered and wanted to pass the word along to others who may
be interested in taking advantage of these great opportunities to learn from
some of the best Raptor Experts around.



Beginning/Intermediate Hawk Class

For beginning and intermediate hawk fans, Bud Anderson will be teaching his
Hawkwatching in Western Washington course once again this winter.



Classes will be held at the Padilla Bay Center near Mt. Vernon on Tuesday
nights from 11 January through 8 February 7-9 PM and in Seattle at Discovery
Park on Wednesday nights 12 January through 9 February 7-9 PM. Cost of the
class is $135.00 per person and includes a full day field trip to the Skagit
Flats for viewing raptors in the wild.



This is a great intro class to raptor ID; I highly recommend it to anyone
who wants to learn more about these fascinating birds!



Advanced Hawk ID Class

Bill Clark, one of the worlds' leading experts on raptor identification and
coauthor of Hawks, raptor field guide in the Peterson series (revised), and
A Photographic Guide to North American Raptors will present a special
weekend class on 21-23 January 2011 at the Padilla Bay Interpretive Center
near Mt. Vernon. These guides will be the texts for the class.



This in-depth seminar is designed for advanced birders, hawk watchers,
banders, and wildlife professionals who want to learn more about the latest
information on hawk identification in North America. Expect truly advanced
material and lots of it!



The class consists of three two-hour PowerPoint sessions: the first on
Friday night, then two hours on early Saturday morning, and the third for
two hours on early Sunday. There will be field trips after the teaching
sessions for the rest of the weekend days. Cost is $150 per person. Field
trip transportation will be in private vehicles, with car-pooling to reduce
the number of vehicles. Each car should have a FSR radio to keep all in
contact with the leader. Please bring one if you have it. Enrollment for
this workshop will be limited to 25 participants, with a minimum of 10.



Bill has more than 45 years of raptor experience, has published numerous
articles on raptor identification, and has given similar weekend classes
numerous times over the last 12 years in Arizona, Texas, California, and
British Columbia.



Bill's class sounds like a great chance for some of us who might like to
gain greater knowledge about the raptors in our area. What an exciting
opportunity!
