Subject: [Tweeters] Can you help ID this Hawk?

I have no opinion whatsoever on the ID of this particular bird. As a matter
of fact, I haven't looked at the photo yet but will shortly. But what's cool
about this debate is that it reminds to be humble about bird ID. I can't
begin to recall how many times I have seen an Accipter either alone or in a
group and there's some question about the ID. Even with birders much more
skilled than me (e.g. some of the Marymoor crew and my annual Okanogan
winter trip crew) there can be lively debate about the ID. My goal for 2011
is to be unafraid of making the ID but also being willing to be wrong when
others point out why I am. In that spirit, I'm happy to see that folks are
willing to state their opinion on the ID of this bird even if some of us are
wrong.

If every bird was identifiable birding would be boring.

PS. I think I just saw either a Couch's or Tropical Kingbird at my house on
Lake Sammamish. It could have been a Western Kingbird but the relatively
heavy bill, the limited gray on the breast and the green hints on the mantle
point away from Western. ;-)

I'm thinking Cooper's Hawk. The rather slim, banded tail looks right for a
Cooper's. The top side of the bird looks too dark for a Goshawk, and I think
I can see a hint of rufous on what little you can see of the underside.

Tweeters;

My brother in Delaware took this picture... can you identify this bird. I
was thinking Goshawk do to the only clear feature, the white supercillium
above the eye??

Thanks!
