No, I'm not referring to unusually pretty ones, not that they were ugly or
anything.

Yesterday was the Puget Sound Seabird Survey for January, and two of my
sites are from the causeway at Purdy in Pierce County.

Among the hundreds of Western Grebes and Surf Scoter, I found at least 3
EARED GREBE and two RED-THROATED LOONS from the south side of the causeway,
and both a male and female BLACK SCOTER from the north side (though not
together). I also had a small flock of DUNLIN that were hanging out on the
rocks on the causeway itself.

My site on Sinclair Inlet south of Bremerton in Kitsap county featured a
couple of hundred WHITE-WINGED SCOTER close in. Nearby (but not at my
site) was a flock of about 100 GREEN-WINGED TEAL. Other birds I found in
the general Bremerton area included a RING-NECKED PHEASANT, and WESTERN
SCRUB-JAY, and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

I'm afraid my afternoon birding was curtailed somewhat by my desire to stay
within listening range to the car radio. That Seahawks game was amazing.
