Hi Tweeters -

An interesting display at my tray feeder this morning with a Northern Flicker and a what I believe to be a femail Yellow-Shafted Flicker (Flocker? :)), although I did not see a red nape. The undersides of tail and wings were definitely yellow.

There was a stand-off, almost like a mating ritual, some sparring and then they took it to the ground, locked together, where the Yellow-Shafted Flicker won the battle and returned to the tray. It was quite intense for a few moments.

Sibley's says these are rare in this area, so am I seeing things or has anyone else had any sitings? This has been the second siting this month.

Townsend's Warbler a regular to the suet as well as male Anna's, among others.
