I, too, have a Townsend's warbler coming to my feeder for the first time ever, in Wallingford (Seattle). There are a few large conifers on the block, but most of the area is typical Seattle urban neighborhood, lots of lawns and ornamentals, not much of what I would consider prime Townsend's habitat. My bird has been around for 4 days now, and it comes to the sunflower seed feeder, not the suet. I've also seen it foraging on the ground with all the Juncos. Can anyone comment on this behavior? I associate Townsend's warblers with "warbler neck" in conifer forests -- e.g. they're high in the trees and hard to see. I'm surprised (and delighted!) to see this beautiful bird hanging out in my yard eating seeds with the sparrows!
