Song sparrows are just starting to sing.

Currently there is a single regular territorial Song Sparrow on Federal Ave E just south of Volunteer Park that has been singing for perhaps 7 to 10 days.

Next up ... House Finiches who come out of hiding and start to chrip and sing starting in January. I've already head a couple on Capitol Hill. But none have got really serious. These guess don't hold territory they're just attracting mates.

And I've heard a couple of Bewick's Wrens in the last couple of days starting to warm up.

I've been walking VP listening for birdsong everyday (almost) since Dec 2. Part of a study to see how song changes over the solstice. I've write up more later.
