Dear Barbara and Tweeters,
?
Yes, one time a bird did "borrow" an item of mine. Actually, the item belonged to my daughter. On August 15, 1992,?she and I?were camping at South Beach Overflow Camping Area, near Kalaloch, in Jefferson County, Washington.?My daughter?was only three years old. In those days, she?seldom went anywhere without Squeeze Baby, a battered little baby doll. Squeeze Baby?is?made of soft rubber, dressed?in a yellow outfit. She's still around somewhere to this very day, as luck would have it.
?
That day, a?California Gull swooped down and picked Squeeze Baby up! The gull began to fly off, so I picked up a stick and ran after that bird. A toss of the stick and a few shouts, presumably coupled with the bird's first taste of the inedible doll, and Squeeze Baby was cartwheeling?back?down to earth again. Phew!?
?
Yours truly,
?

Mentre che li occhi per la fronda verde
ficcava ?o s? come far suole
chi dietro a li uccellin sua vita perde,
lo pi? che padre mi dicea: ?Figliuole,
vienne oramai, ch? ?l tempo che n?? imposto
pi? utilmente compartir si vuole?.

This story is for all the world-travelers, cat-lovers, photographers and probably even bird-watchers as well. ?Ever had a bird "borrow", play with and get bored with, or even return, an item of yours?
A friend sent this to me. ?Enjoy.

Barb,
This is from our friends Jack and Rikki who still work with Lindblad leading photo expeditions.
Rikki submitted her story to the Buckys people and of course they put it on their site...
