Subject: [Tweeters] Wintering Tree Swallows

Hi all,

Tree Swallows arriving at Nisqually in mid-January are a bit early.
Looking back at past issues of North American Birds, however, Tree
Swallows have been showing-up on a more regular basis by the end of
January. But the Tree Swallows that Dennis mentioned seeing at
Ridgefield back on the 9th of January are a different story. These Tree
Swallows have been reported throughout the month of December and I
recall some reports in November so they have apparently over-wintered.
This does appear to happen now and then as in the winter of 05/06.
Perhaps some of the folks that are regular visitors to the Ridgefield
tour route could confirm numbers and dates in November and December.

With our mixed bag of crazy weather this winter, any little sign of
spring is nice.

Cheers and good birding,
