Subject: [Tweeters] RFI - Texas Hill Country

My favorite Texas experiences occurred during my stay at Lost Maples
State Natural Area on the west side of the Hill Country. I saw the
Golden-cheeked Warbler not far away from that park, but my best time
was spent watching a pair of Green Kingfishers excavating a nest
burrow along the river, not far from the campground. While camping
there, a male Northern Cardinal decided my van mirrors revealed a
rival; every time I would return to my campsite, the bird would
attack my van's side-view mirrors within seconds. I ended up
covering the mirrors with towels so that he wouldn't be wasting so
much time.

One day in Lost Maples, there were gray skies and a steady drizzle
falling on the spring maples. It reminded me of Seattle after days
in the flat country around Dallas (a city that was named "the meanest
city in America" during my Texas trip). Lost Maples is beautiful, in
addition to being great for birding.
