Thanks for all the input and photos. I agree with Pete Fahey that there is more
than one egret at Nisqually.? The photos I've seen show this clearly, at least
one of the birds being our American bird (Great Egret) with all black legs (See
the photos by Joel Haas taken Jan 17) and another apparently being an Eurasian
species (so far there are several opinions about which). See the photos by John

I say that I NOW agree on at least two different birds?but didn't before.? Our
Wednesday?walking group?as well as?the regular monthly census group conducted by
the USGS volunteers under Kelley Turner's leadership has never seen more than
one bird at a time.? We were told last Fall, however, by workers on the new
boardwalk that there is more than one bird out there. They said there were
several together and? these workers seemed quite familiar with Great Egrets. For
awhile we were convinced they were correct but then changed our mind because we
never saw two together.? The photos now coming in show at least two different
birds. Thanks to Marian Bailey the many photographs of these birds are coming
together with some thoughtful opinions.? She thought there was something odd
about the pictures she was seeing.?
