Hi Tweets,
On our mid-day walk Wed., we heard a mystery sound. First guess,
based on the regular spacing of the sound, was a low battery signal
from a recreational vehicle parked next to the house. We walked another
20 ft. and it was clear the sound was coming from a dense thicket of
Ceanothus. As we scanned the shrubs, an Anna's came rocketing out of
the bushes, and soon the second hummingbird followed. I remembered the
discussion and links that were posted on Tweeters by David Hutchinson
and others last year and realized we'd been hearing those
bottom-of-the-dive, tail feather chirps. A remarkable sound in real life!
