Today I may have seen a Whimbrel on a flooded portion of the prairie at
Scatter Creek Wildlife Area, South Unit. For the brief time I had in in
view in flight, I cannot make it to be anything else (plain brown
mantle; whitish belly; and long, droopy (decurved) bill).

Should anyone care to look for it, from the South Unit parking area,
walk west on the inner loop trail along the south side of the 'forest
island' past the power line to the west end of the woodland. Here
you'll be stopped by a little flood flow issuing from the woodland, and
running west-southwest into an ancient glacial melt-water channel. Turn
left and follow the edge of the flood flow pool, and if you're lucky
you'll flush the bird.

How to find the Scatter Creek South Unit?: from 183rd Ave between
Sargent Road and Case Road, go north on Guava Street nearly to its end,
turn west into the parking lot, and drive to the far end. Park near the
big reader board with the aerial photo maps; a well-disguised stile
