In one of my prior lives I was a health inspector in Sacramento County.?? I
assume the same?principals of sanitation regarding commercial kitchens and
restaurants will also apply to bird feeders.? As long as the sugar water is 40*F
or less,? there should be no bacterial growth.?? The fact that it?is a sugar
solution will also retard spoilage.???? Think of warm pop: it may taste
horrible, but it won't?make you sick.

Hummers do eat insects as a protein source.? I have taken several photographs of
the resident Anna's at the Edmonds marsh hunting small flying insects. ?
