Whoops, Hi Tweets

I just reread my message, and I meant that Dike Rd is on the east side of the North Fork of the Skagit River, and west of I-5.

Hi All

A week or so ago we had a very large flock of Snow Geese (5-7000) up west of I-5 and southwest of Mt. Vernon. They were visible swirling around from I-5. We cut back and took Dike Rd. (on the west side of the North Fork of the Skagit River). The flock was feeding in a field somewhere between Peter Johnson Rd and West Stackpole Rd.

Earlier in December I had seen groups of Snow Geese up near Chuckanut Drive. I have also seen good size groups down on Fir Island. A couple of times while stopped at the Valentine Rd. feeders on Pleasant Ridge we have had large flights of Snow Geese go over heading north. In general, I think the sub-units of the Snow Geese are wandering much more this year. You likely need to explore more and be alert to look for them.

Good Birding,

Hi Tweeters,

Marti and Lew had lousy Snow Goose luck. They are there. I saw a bunch last Saturday but I can remember a few times in the past going up to Fir Island, Skagit area and wondering where they were. Sometimes they are out on the water and sometimes as far south as Stanwood. Last week I saw 3 probable separate large flocks, one at Boe Rd, one at the Hayden Goose preserve but way out in the next field, and one flock at Maupin Road where there were at least 6 Bald Eagles feasting on goose. I didn't see any Short-eared Owls but I know they are around, I did not make it as far as the W90 though either.
