The tide was high and the surface water relatively calm on the Sound
this morning (1-22-11). Sanderling were on the marina breakwater and
a Belted Kingfisher was in the marina. Red-breasted Merganser was
the most numerous of the sea ducks today. The Brants were at the
Shell Creek spit and seen by scoping from Sunset Avenue. Great Blue
Herons did a disappearing act but some of the gulls came to the Marsh
to bathe and rest. Yellow-rumped Warblers were both on the north
side of the Marsh and the south side as seen from the Point Edwards
public path. Lots of Juncos and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were feeding
along Willow Creek in the hatchery. No raptors or woodpeckers this
morning and no sparrows other than a few Song Sparrows.
