I went out Sunday morning in the heavy fog and mist intending to find Adam Sedgely and his Seattle Audubon folks somewhere on Marrowstone but dipped on them because it was nastier than I wanted to wait through and bring out the big lenses (I say no more on this subject). I think the sun came out just as I left. Hope they all did well. Here's an abbreviated list of what I saw that should reflect a few of theirs. Oak Bay County Park had the usual Northern Pintails, Green-winged Teal and Mew Gulls in the lagoon with a number of Common Goldeneye outside. In fact the number of Common Goldeneye all around Marrowstone far exceeded all previous years I've been around there (last 5 at least). There were probably over a 100 in the various bays and inlets. The inlet between Indian and Marrowstone Islands near the road had a small flock of 5 Greater Yellowlegs among the Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintails, Northern Shovelers and Hooded Mergansers. The Northern Mockingbird was behind the Nordland store where it's been for the last 3 months. In September it was first seen at Mystery Bay State Park and must have moved from there. The usual birds were off the western beach at Ft. Flagler with a flock of Long-tailed Ducks being the only thing of note a few hundred yards from shore. The Yellow-billed Loon was not in sight (cut short by the fog) though I did see it with Bob Whitney the day before just after Seabird left (and I have the time stamped photos to prove it to you doubters!).
