Lee and Tweeters,

Several years ago I saw a Red-tailed Hawk standing on the carcass of a Trumpeter Swan and presumably eating it. Since the swan was considerably larger than the hawk, I assume that the hawk found the swan dead.

It appeared to be a Red-tailed Hawk feeding on a long-dead carcass of a Coyote. I have never before observed a Red-Tail feeding on carrion, and wonder if my identification could be wrong; is there another Buteo that is a carrion-eater?
